How to transfere files through SSH

How to transfer files to your iPhone through SSH.

It might be useful to have access to the file system on you iPhone. To be able to manually enter files, delete, add new themes or delete them, maybe add a gameboy game. This guide will help you to do just that.

You will need:

-          A jailbroken iphone

-          BossPrefs on the iPhone.

-          OpenSSH activated on the iPhone

-          WinSCP, an ftp file transfer program on the pc (or a similar ftp software)

-          Wireless network access

Be aware that changing or deleting system files, may be risky. We advise you to be careful with what you do, and carefully follow guides if you are not used to this. iPhonenewsblog.net does not take any responsibility if you cause damage to your phone. Do know, that if you manage to do so, you may be able to restore through DFU mode, and reinstall the software through iTunes.

1)      BossPrefs is a neat little software that helps you toggle on-off functions like Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, brightness, SSH and so on.
To get it, enter Cydia and search for BossPrefs and download it from the BigBoss source.

2)      To get access to the iPhones file system, you need OpenSSH installed on your jailbroken iPhone. SSH is short for Secure Shell and is an encrypted tunnel for data traffic. You can use SSH you transfer files between a client (iPhone) and a server (Computer). You will find OpenSSH in “featured programs” on the home screen of Cydia, or you can search for it.
You will also have to install BSD Sbsystems, you will find that in a similar way as above.

3)      When you have installed BossPrefs and  OpenSSH you now will have to activate it. Enter BossPrefs and activate SSH.
Remember to turn off SSH when you are done. It will reduce your battery life and your phone will also be a victim for easy hacking.

4)      Now, enter your FTP program, in our case; the WINscp.
To download, press here.
Install and open the program.

5)      Once open, the window will ask you to fill in certain details. Once you’ve filled in the details in the picture, you can log in. You will find the IP address in BossPrefs or in settings under WiFi. Click the blue arrow on the network you’re connected to.
